Conducting a training course on combating torture

 

The Law Enforcement Academy, together with the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights, the Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Tashkent region, organized a training course on the topic: "Combating torture: international practice and national experience".

The training event was organized as part of the implementation of the National Educational Program in the field of human rights in the Republic of Uzbekistan, approved by the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated February 7, 2023.

The participants of the course were employees of the prosecutor's office and internal affairs of the region.

The Academy's specialists familiarized the audience with up-to-date information on international standards in the field of combating torture and their application in law enforcement practice. Successful foreign practice and a number of new effective mechanisms that contribute to improving the effectiveness of work on the prevention of torture are explained in detail.

Special attention is drawn to the existence in national legislation of norms prohibiting the use of torture, cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment and punishment. The importance of generally recognized principles and rules in this regard is emphasized.

Practical classes were held along with lectures. Upon completion of the course, students were awarded certificates.
