Participation in the IV Tashkent Anti-Corruption Forum

 

On October 16-17 of this year, the administration and staff of the Academy participated in the IV Tashkent Anti-Corruption Forum, organized in cooperation with the Anti-Corruption National Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Anti-Corruption Agency, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and other international organizations.

On the first day of the forum, Academy professors, teachers, and researchers took an active part in the discussions during sessions on "Development and Implementation of Anti-Corruption Policy Documents: Strategies and Other Programs," "The Role of NGOs in Fighting Corruption: National and International Experiences," and "Gender Issues and Anti-Corruption."

The second day of the forum began with a plenary session, which was opened by the Chairman of the Committee of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, N. Umarov; the Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency, A. Burkhanov; the Ambassador of the European Union to Uzbekistan, Toivo Klaar; the Permanent Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Uzbekistan, Akiko Fujii; the Regional Representative of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime for Central Asia, Oliver Stolpe; and the Head of the "Good Governance" program at the German International Cooperation Society (GIZ), Viktor Kessler.

After the plenary session, an award ceremony was held to recognize organizations and individuals who contributed to the fight against corruption in Uzbekistan.

Following the award ceremony, participants attended three sessions within the forum: "A New Era in Fighting Corruption: Innovative Technologies as an Effective Tool for Preventing Corruption," "Anti-Corruption Culture as a Means to Resolve Social Conflicts," and "Preventing Conflicts of Interest and Implementing Compliance Systems: Challenges and Prospects."

During these sessions, representatives from international organizations and foreign countries shared advanced practices on the topics discussed.

The international and foreign experts who attended the forum acknowledged the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan to combat corruption and the achievements made so far, while also providing suggestions and recommendations for further improving anti-corruption efforts.

In particular, forum participant Tuija Brax, Director of the Finnish Center for Judicial Excellence, noted the establishment of the Virtual Anti-Corruption Academy by the Agency and the Academy in Uzbekistan as a noteworthy achievement.
