A presentation of the results of the pilot phase of the joint project "Road Traffic Safety," implemented with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), was held at the Law Enforcement Academy.
As part of this project, a pilot phase aimed at preventing road traffic accidents was conducted from September to November 2024 in the Yunusabad district of Tashkent city and Yangiyul city in the Tashkent region.
Six Japanese experts participated in the project. In collaboration with relevant organizations, they studied the current road traffic accident situation by analyzing existing data and conducting on-site visits to accident hotspots.
Given the project's relevance and the need to engage the wider public in activities aimed at preventing road accidents, a special Telegram bot was created. Through this bot, reports from citizens were displayed on a specially developed GIS map indicating accident-prone areas.
During the implementation of the pilot phase, alongside foreign specialists, twelve national experts also took part in the project.
Significant practical results were achieved at the initial stage. In particular, reconstruction work was planned to eliminate identified accident hotspots. For instance, in front of School No. 272 in Yunusabad district, Tashkent, road signs will be updated, special rubber bollards and speed-reducing road surfaces will be installed to prevent vehicle parking and reduce the risk of accidents. Similarly, at the road in front of the Yangiyul city market, road markings (zebra crossings, directional arrows, stop lines) will be updated, special speed-reducing road surfaces will be installed, and a safety island will be created.
It has been determined that all costs associated with these improvements will be covered by the Japanese side.
Additionally, as part of the pilot project, foreign specialists, together with national experts, conducted road safety awareness activities in schools in Tashkent.
Following the completion of the pilot project, a special report was prepared by national and foreign experts and presented to the general public.
