In accordance with the Decree of the Head of our state, the institution of the investigative judge was introduced in January of this year. The launch of this new structure within the judicial system marks a significant step in protecting the legitimate interests of citizens and ensuring fair judicial proceedings.
Investigative judges are vested with the authority to review cases of administrative offenses, as well as to exercise judicial oversight over the protection of individual rights and freedoms in cases related to the authorization of procedural decisions and the application of coercive measures at the pre-trial stage of proceedings.
To discuss the organization of effective activities within this institution and to clarify its essence and significance, a seminar-training session titled “The Institute of investigative judges – a new guarantee for the protection of individual rights and freedoms” was held at the Law Enforcement Academy.
The event brought together representatives of the judiciary, legal professionals, faculty members of higher education institutions, public representatives, as well as investigative judges from district (city) criminal courts who had recently started their work, participating online.
During the seminar-training, cases reviewed by investigative judges were analyzed, and discussions were held on the advantages of this institution, the enhancement of judicial oversight over investigative and inquiry bodies at the pre-trial stage, further improvements to national legislation, and other issues related to judicial practice, with active exchange of opinions.
Participants emphasized that organizing such events is significant not only for judges and legal professionals but also for society as a whole. They contribute to ensuring transparency, impartiality, and efficiency in the judicial system while strengthening citizens’ legal awareness.
