UNESCO Regional Trainings Held for Prosecution Authorities


The Law Enforcement Academy, in cooperation with the UNESCO Representative Office in Uzbekistan, conducted a training session for employees of the Namangan Regional Prosecutor’s Office on the topic: "Freedom of Expression and Access to Information, and the Investigation of Crimes Against Journalists".

The training was led by international expert Sabine Ouellet (Canada), who has extensive experience in the field of protecting journalistic activity and ensuring freedom of speech and access to information.

Participants included employees of the Namangan Regional Prosecutor’s Office, in particular, the senior assistant to the regional prosecutor on public relations and legal information, department prosecutors, assistants to district and city prosecutors, and investigators.

During the event, the expert provided detailed explanations on the right to freedom of expression and its significance in building a democratic society, the legal limitations on freedom of speech, guarantees of access to information, requirements of international standards, and best foreign practices.

Additionally, the training thoroughly covered the methods and mechanisms of conducting preliminary investigations into crimes committed against journalists.

At the end of the event, participants were awarded certificates.
