The Law Enforcement Academy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, together with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is implementing a project aimed at improving road safety. The project provides for the provision of analytical, research, and expert advisory assistance to Uzbekistan in the field of road safety, including the improvement of statistical reporting and analysis, the development of methodological materials, and raising the legal culture of the population.
In order to discuss the current results and new joint initiatives, a meeting was held between the Academy's leadership and Sero Koki, Deputy Head of the JICA Representative Office in Uzbekistan.
At the meeting, it was noted that the analytical and research work carried out by JICA experts at the Academy over the past two years has been consistently continuing, including:
- improvement of the system for collecting statistical data on road safety;
- analysis and practical application of statistical data that serve to make management decisions;
- raising the legal culture of the population in the field of road safety, including the development of information and promotional and advertising materials.
Within the framework of the project, pilot activities were carried out in the city of Yangiyul and the Yunusabad district of Tashkent. With the assistance of JICA, accident hotspots were identified, and in order to eliminate them, the road infrastructure facility was reconstructed and the risk of accidents was eliminated, which contributes to reducing the risk of road accidents and creating a safe transport environment.
The parties confirmed their readiness to continue joint work on the introduction of modern approaches to analyzing the road transport situation, strengthening preventive measures, and developing targeted information campaigns for various groups of road users.
