Dual education at the Law Enforcement Academy: The unity of theory and practice

Within the educational programmes of the Law Enforcement Academy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a dual education system has been fully implemented, aimed at providing practice-oriented training for future specialists in the prosecutorial-investigative fields.

Under this system, final-year undergraduate students majoring in “Investigative activity” undertake their professional practice directly at their future workplaces. Under the supervision of the Academy’s faculty, students are assigned to investigative divisions of internal affairs bodies and the prosecution service across the regions of the country, where they receive training in conditions closely resembling real professional practice.

This format enables students to apply the theoretical knowledge acquired at the Academy in practical settings, develop professional skills, and ensure a strong connection between the academic process and investigative practice.

The Academy’s faculty members play an active role in implementing the dual education model: instructors are assigned to regional institutions and work together with practitioners to conduct training sessions, provide applied assignments, and assess students’ performance.

Particular emphasis is placed on developing students’ abilities to promptly detect and solve crimes, as well as mastering modern investigative methods and tools. During training, students participate in crime scene visits as part of investigative teams, conduct on-site inspections, perform procedural actions, and independently prepare drafts of procedural documents.

The dual education format significantly enhances students’ professional competence and initiative, accelerates their adaptation to future service, and fosters practical skills essential for effective work within the law enforcement system.
