Participation in the second-stage review of the implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption

Since the Republic of Uzbekistan joined the UN Convention against Corruption in 2008, work has been consistently continuing to harmonize national legislation with international standards.

In accordance with Article 63 of the UN Convention against Corruption, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and the Republic of Nigeria and the Maldives are conducting a second-stage review of the implementation of the Convention's provisions in Uzbekistan on November 17-21 of this year.

The monitoring examines the implementation in the country's legislation and practice of the provisions of Chapters II and V of the Convention, in particular, anti-corruption policy, codes of ethics for anti-corruption bodies, judicial and prosecutorial bodies, the state and private sectors, civil servants, public procurement and fund management, accountability, public participation, as well as measures to combat the legalization of criminal proceeds and the return of assets.

Responsible representatives of the Anti-Corruption Agency, the Prosecutor General's Office, the Law Enforcement Academy, and other ministries and agencies participated in meetings and discussions with UN and foreign experts on the implementation of these rules.

In particular, the First Deputy Head of the Academy, Evgeny Kolenko, who participated in the monitoring, answered experts' questions about the work carried out to train and educate representatives of bodies authorized to combat corruption under Articles 6, 7, 8, and 13 of the UN Convention, improve the skills of civil servants in combating corruption, eliminating conflicts of interest, applying ethical rules, as well as enhance the potential of the population and representatives of non-governmental non-profit organizations in combating corruption, and instill the values of honesty in the minds of young people.

Special courses in the field of combating corruption organized for civil servants through the electronic platform "Virtual Anti-Corruption Academy," launched in January of this year, as well as educational events conducted through special training programs for pupils, schoolchildren, and students of preschool educational institutions, aroused great interest among experts.
