Regional UNESCO trainings for prosecution authorities were conducted at the Academy.


In cooperation with the UNESCO Representative Office in Uzbekistan, the Law Enforcement Academy conducted a series of training sessions for prosecutors from the city of Tashkent, as well as the Khorezm, Kashkadarya, and Surkhandarya regions. The training focused on the topic: “Freedom of expression and access to information, as well as the investigation of crimes committed against journalists”.

The sessions were led by Sabin Ouellet (Canada), an international expert with extensive experience in the field of protecting journalistic activities and ensuring freedom of expression and access to information.

Participants included representatives from territorial prosecutor’s offices, in particular: senior assistants to prosecutors for public relations and legal information, department prosecutors, assistants to city and district prosecutors, as well as investigators.

The expert provided detailed explanations on the right to freedom of expression and its significance in building a democratic society, the lawful limitations on freedom of expression, guarantees of access to information, international standards, and leading international practices.

In addition, the methods and mechanisms for conducting preliminary investigations into crimes committed against journalists were thoroughly covered.

Participants were awarded certificates.
