Under the chairmanship of the United Kingdom, the next Annual general meeting of the Camden asset recovery inter-agency network (CARIN) was held at Europol headquarters.
Around 200 representatives from more than 60 countries and international organizations participated in the event. It served as an important platform for international experts on asset recovery and combating economic crime.
The delegation of the informal asset recovery inter-agency network for Western and Central Asia (ARIN-WCA), which holds observer status within the CARIN network, took part in the meeting. The delegation was represented by the country holding the chairmanship in 2025 – the Republic of Tajikistan – as well as the permanent Secretariat of the network, the Law Enforcement Academy of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The event was organized with the support of Europol and CIVIPOL, and with the assistance of the Crown prosecution service (CPS) and the National crime agency (NCA) of the United Kingdom.
The main aim of the meeting was to discuss effective international cooperation in 2025 in the field of asset recovery and anti-money laundering, to analyse existing challenges, explore solutions, and address new contemporary threats.
Over the course of three days, participants discussed the development of activities of both formal and informal international networks on asset recovery and financial intelligence, the use of virtual assets and challenges of the digital economy, practices of Non-Conviction Based Asset Recovery (NCBAR), new European Union directives on asset recovery, as well as cooperation with new structures within the organization. In addition, the event reviewed a draft of the CARIN network’s new strategy for 2026–2029.
In addition to plenary sessions, the program included panel discussions, interactive exercises aimed at team-building and strengthening professional connections, as well as presentations by ARIN networks. On behalf of ARIN-WCA, a representative of the network’s permanent Secretariat – the Law Enforcement Academy of the Republic of Uzbekistan – delivered a presentation providing an overview of ARIN-WCA’s activities, completed tasks, and future plans.
The event was held in a businesslike and constructive atmosphere. Participants agreed to continue active cooperation and to strengthen engagement within the ARIN network.
