The Law Enforcement Academy in cooperation with the National Human Rights Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the General Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs organized training courses on the topic "Combating torture: international practice and national experience" in Fergana, Andijan and Namangan regions.
These educational events were held as part of the implementation of the national education program in the field of human rights in the Republic of Uzbekistan, approved by the decision of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on February 7, 2023.
The participants of the training courses consisted of employees of the regional prosecutor's office and internal affairs bodies.
Specialists of the Academy thoroughly familiarized the audience with international standards in the field of combating torture. The nature of advanced foreign experiences on increasing the effectiveness of torture prevention activities was explained in detail, and important information was given on the introduction of a number of new effective mechanisms in the field.
Attention was drawn to the existence of norms prohibiting the use of torture, cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment and types of punishment in the national legislation. The importance of universally recognized principles and rules in this regard was emphasized.
Practical exercises were also held in harmony with the lectures. At the end of the training courses, the trainees were given certificates.
