The regional office of the United Nations office on drugs and crime (UNODC), together with the asset recovery interagency network for West and Central Asia (ARIN-WCA), whose Secretariat functions are carried out by the Law enforcement academy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, held a webinar on the topic: “Nigeria’s Experience in Asset Recovery”.
The speakers were: Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu, special adviser to the president of Nigeria (2016–2023), doctoral researcher at the university of Sussex (United Kingdom), and Emmanuel Akomaie, first secretary-general of the Nigerian economic and financial crimes commission (2003–2013), Head of the law firm Emmanuel Akomaie & Co.
The experts shared Nigeria’s practical experience in the field of asset recovery, providing detailed insights into effective mechanisms applied in international cooperation.
The webinar brought together representatives from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. The discussion took place in an open exchange format, where participants received comprehensive answers to pressing questions as well as concrete recommendations.
The event became an important step in strengthening regional cooperation and in the development of international asset recovery tools. This webinar will further contribute to enhancing cooperation among states and to building effective international mechanisms in the field of asset recovery.
