The growing scale of transnational crime is making the prompt obtaining of evidence from foreign countries, the tracing and recovery of criminal assets, as well as ensuring effective cooperation between the competent authorities of different states, an increasingly pressing task.
These issues constituted the main topics of discussion at the international practical seminar on mutual legal assistance and international judicial cooperation held at the Law Enforcement Academy of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The event was organized within the framework of the EU-ACT Programme with the support of the European Union and CIVIPOL.
Representatives of the prosecution authorities, the Law Enforcement Academy, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the State Security Service, as well as invited international experts from France and Spain, participated in the seminar.
Within the framework of the programme, legal and practical issues related to the preparation of mutual legal assistance requests, extradition, the tracing and recovery of criminal assets, and obtaining banking information and digital evidence were examined.
The training sessions were conducted in a practical format, during which the participants analysed typical challenges encountered in the process of international judicial cooperation, completed practical exercises, and exchanged experience on addressing them.
During the discussions, particular attention was paid to the accurate and high-quality preparation of mutual legal assistance requests, their timely submission to the competent foreign authorities, as well as ensuring effective cooperation in obtaining banking and digital information.
The international experts shared practical approaches applied in the process of legal cooperation between states, extradition, and the recovery of criminal assets, drawing on the experience of France and Spain.
The seminar provided participants with an opportunity to strengthen their knowledge and practical skills in the field of international legal cooperation, exchange views on existing challenges, and develop proposals aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of cooperation between the competent authorities.
At the conclusion of the event, proposals were developed to further improve the mechanisms of mutual legal assistance and international judicial cooperation. Certificates were presented to the seminar participants.
