“A Nation lives through its mother tongue!”: respect for the state language and professional responsibility

Respect for one’s mother tongue, competent use of the state language in official correspondence, and responsibility in the use of words were reflected in the traditional “A Nation Lives Through Its Mother Tongue!” competition held among employees of the prosecution service, the Department and the Bureau. Conducted in two stages in September–October 2026, the competition was held for the sixth time this year, testing employees’ language proficiency, analytical thinking and public speaking skills.

Organised annually since 2021, the competition aims to enhance employees’ speech culture, strengthen their skills in conducting official correspondence proficiently in the state language, and foster a sense of devotion to their mother tongue. Holding the competition on the eve of Uzbek Language Day gives these objectives particular cultural and spiritual significance.

The first stage of the competition was held at the prosecutor’s offices of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the regions and the city of Tashkent, as well as at the Department, the Bureau, the Transport Prosecutor’s Office and the Military Prosecutor’s Office. Employees who took first place in each category qualified for the final stage. A first-stage competition was also organised in three categories among employees of the Office of the Prosecutor General.

At the final held on 9 October at the Law Enforcement Academy, 19 employees competed in each of the following categories: systematic and analytical work, literacy, and poetry and public speaking.

In the systematic and analytical work category, participants defended their papers on pressing issues related to the development and protection of the state language. They presented analytical solutions and specific proposals on improving prosecutorial oversight of compliance with legislation on the state language, cooperation between public oversight bodies and prosecution authorities, international experience, and the development of the state language in the context of artificial intelligence and the internet.

To ensure objective assessment, the papers were reviewed in coded form. Artificial intelligence technologies were also used as an additional analytical tool. Final scores and decisions were made on the basis of the professional judgements of the members of the Jury.

In the literacy category, finalists wrote a dictation in the Latin script. In the poetry and public speaking category, participants recited poems by heart on the themes of “Homeland”, “Independence”, “The Uzbek Language” and “Profession”, analysed their content and delivered speeches. This year, public speaking skills were assessed in this category for the first time.

The participants’ papers and performances were assessed by a Jury comprising specialists in the state language, literature and philology, including poets Salim Ashur and Eshqobil Shukur, as well as experienced staff members of the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Academy.

Based on the final results, prize winners and winners of special nominations were determined in each category. The winners will be honoured on the eve of Uzbek Language Day. Prize winners will receive cash awards and diplomas, and additional incentives are also предусмотрены for prize winners and winners of special nominations.
