At a meeting of the Scientific Council DSc.24/2026.31.01.Yu.01.02 under the Law Enforcement Academy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a dissertation defence was held for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Law, in the speciality 12.00.08 – “Criminal Law. Penal Enforcement Law”, by Academy lecturer Davlat Oltinboyevich Oblakulov. The dissertation was entitled “Improving Criminal Liability for Commercial Bribery”.
The study examined ways to improve the provisions of the Criminal Code establishing criminal liability for commercial bribery and the practice of their application. It substantiated proposals to establish separate criminal liability for bribery intended to deliberately influence the results of sporting competitions, classify this act as a corruption-related offence, and clarify the legislation governing its qualification.
Based on the research findings, proposals were developed to separate the provision concerning commercial bribery into distinct articles, as well as to introduce amendments and additions to certain resolutions of the Plenum of the Supreme Court on criminal cases. The analysis of judicial practice was aimed at establishing a unified approach to the qualification of this offence.
Following the defence, the Scientific Council approved the dissertation. The Academy’s staff congratulates Davlat Oltinboyevich Oblakulov on his successful dissertation defence and wishes him success in his research activities.
